A Text Editor - - - Modeled Off Editor Within ISPF / SPF / PDF
CWTE is a full screen line oriented text editor with a command-line user interface, a WYSIWYG style text editor. Designed to work on MS⋅Windows, Linux/AIX, and other Unix like platforms. Note that this is not a word processor, but a text editor that uses a mix of primary and line commands. A text editor that operates under the concept that lines and columns of information are important and requires a fixed space font. A text editor designed to be dynamically interactive with the workstation, to be able to bring up the text editor most anywhere at any time, to quickly get to the location of interest, and to start work immediately. To be that work horse of text editors for your daily needs. A text editor with a user interface that is pretty much the same across the various platforms.
CWTE uses the X⋅Window (X11) system as the user interface under the Linux/Unix/AIX versions. The X11 feature is a big plus when you need to network with other remote workstations. A feature that allows you to edit/view files and/or use the editor either locally or remotely across the workstations.
CWTE made its start in the early 90's and was modeled off the text editor part of the 1993 version of SPF. At the time there were no acceptable SPF like workstation editors inside the company and those on the open market were either too costly, had a mainframe like startup (which then you had to go find the work), or generally only worked on one type OS (and maybe had no X⋅Window feature as well). If you have ever used the SPF text editor, you will pretty much have a feel for this text editor.
CWTE features a Ring Of Views in a Round Robin fashion so that many views can be open at a given time. With commands that can select, step to, branch to, or relocate views within the ring. Further, a given view can either be the contents of a file or a list of directory entries, where the entries can further be selected for viewing. To protect from the sometimes wild card run away (more than three files), a file list view will be displayed instead. When working with the opening and closing of many views, there is a command that can block the accidental closing of any given view.
CWTE's development has more recently migrated toward commands that have a more indexing like feature. Within a given file, these commands provide branching to various parts of that file, to other files, and even to other directory files (LEX, RAP). Even the start up option like '-ipc' will provide indexing to continue into other files. Further, there are commands that can even open web pages (SAA, EXEAA).

CWTE Is Free and is an Open Source program that is being distributed in the hopes that you might find it useful at home and maybe even at your work place. To be the editor that provides workstation commonality across the various platforms that you might be working with.
